Tough guys die alone

Belak’s death latest in a sad, sad summer. Back in the 70s, Dave Schultz was the tough guy for the Broad Street Bullies (Philadelphia). It was his job to make sure nobody messed with Bobby Clarke. Dave was very likable – the kind of guy you’d wanted to have a beer with. He got respect for being who he was, doing the job. In the long run it wasn’t enough for Dave. He’d rather be remembered for his goal scoring ability and the times he came through for the team.

It seems that now even the bitter sweet career of a Dave Schultz isn’t a possibility. The tough guys get discarded like so much Kleenex. Come on men, those tough ones where there for you when you needed them – no questions asked. They at least deserve your love and respect.

Here’s more about Dave Schultz.
