Gretzky, 1979

It has always struck me that living life as “The Great One” is too high an ideal. I’d be content with “The Adequate One.” The opening paragraphs of this book review are a nice meditation on the meaning of sports. As to things of beauty, I would add Wayne Gretzky during the Edmonton years. The book review itself occupies the last couple of paragraphs. I often wonder why we even bother with Noam Chomsky – he’s the really obnoxious cousin who you try to avoid at family parties because you’d have to endure is endless verbal dribbles.
