clapclap.org knows writers who use subtext and they are all cowards: Hallelujah This is a very long essay about Cohen’s Hallelujah – there are also extensive replies. Two comments:

There is a lot more to the biblical references in the song that the author chooses not to deal with – biblical illiteracy!

Although in Canada we seem to get the Rufus Wainwright version a lot – I’ve grown very tired of it. I’ll never get tired of the K D Lang version.
